At LaLa Media, we believe stories have the power to inspire, heal, and brighten the world - one page at a time. Founded by Mel and Gary LaFreniere, our mission is to create books and projects that celebrate love, identity, and authenticity.
Together for more than 27 years, we’ve raised two incredible adult children in the LGBTQ+ community who continue to shape how we see the world and the kinds of stories we tell. Their courage and creativity inspire our work every day, reminding us that stories aren’t just entertainment — they’re a way of building belonging, hope, and joy.
We’re here for the dreamers, the doers, and the readers who believe a book doesn’t just fill a shelf or screen, but opens a door.
About Mel
Mel is a writer, creator, and lifelong storyteller who believes that words can change the way we see ourselves and the world around us. After years of exploring different forms of creative expression, she found her purpose in writing books and essays that celebrate identity, belonging, and the beauty of living authentically. Her children’s stories carry messages of love and acceptance, while her personal essays explore the humor, heartbreak, and triumphs of real life.
At LaLa Media, Mel is the heart behind the narratives — weaving together imagination and empathy to create stories that connect with readers of all ages. She believes that every story has the power to spark courage, joy, and possibility.
About Gary
Gary is a consultant and guide for small businesses who want to embrace new tools but often feel hesitant to make the leap. With a background in simplifying complex systems, he has a knack for turning technology and automation into something approachable and even exciting. Gary is passionate about helping people see what’s possible when they remove fear from the equation and lean into innovation.
