Cats Living on Ancient Roman Ruins and It’s So Darn Cute!
You're walking through Rome, minding your business, when you look down and see dozens of cats just lounging across 2,000-year-old ruins. Sunbathing. Living their best life. Like they own the place… because they do. 😂
That's Torre Argentina Cat Sanctuary, and it’s absolutely adorable!
So there’s a sunken archaeological site right in the middle of Rome that’s been taken over by a bunch of rescue cats who have decided that ancient Roman columns make the best nap spots. Which, honestly? Valid.
You can see the whole thing from the street above for free. Just walk up to the railing, look down, and try not to audibly say awwww. (I failed at that)
Should You Go Down?
We paid the small entry fee to head down into the ruins and I would do it again in a heartbeat. It's such a surreal, sweet little experience… wandering through ancient history with cats doing their thing all around you. They're rescues, so you can't touch them or really interact, but genuinely? Just watching them exist is enough.
That said, the free view from above is really good. If you're not a huge cat person, you'll probably get all you need from up there and that’s completely fine!
Wait, I Have to Tell You This Part
So. Funny thing.
This is also where Julius Caesar was assassinated.
Like — the cats are napping on the exact spot where one of the most dramatic moments in all of human history went down. Rome really just said "here's 2,000 years of history, now look at this cutie pie" and I respect it deeply.
